Adventurous. Athletic. Absorbing.

In 2019 VERVE presents an ambitious programme of bold new dance work created by internationally-acclaimed and award-winning choreographers Joan Clevillé (Catalonia), Maxine Doyle (UK) and Ben Wright (UK), alongside a restaging of Shutdown by Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof (Israel).

Experience an evening of physically charged and refreshingly original dance, performed by dance artists on the cusp of their professional careers. See where dance is right now, and where it may go next.

Programme:

  • Joan Clevillé - Team V
Exploring the physical connections between breath, voice and the body, Team V is a playful and humorous exploration of the poetics and politics of the human voice.

  • Maxine Doyle - 4:18
Emotionally visceral, with a drive to communicate and connect physically. Associate Director of Punchdrunk, Maxine Doyle draws inspiration from the words of performance poet Kate Tempest.

  • Ben Wright - the sea tells a story
Artistic Co-Director of Candoco Dance Company and director of bgroup, Ben Wright creates work in opera, theatre and dance. Physically sumptuous and poetic, humanity and storytelling lie at the heart of his practice.

  • Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof Shutdown
Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof restage their work Shutdown, originally created for Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau/wee dance company. Expect pulsating rhythm and movement, veering wildly between the ferocious and the delicate.

Age Recommendation: 11yrs+
