V/DA and MHz in association with Feral - VOID

Multimedia and dance-theatre combine in this re-imagining of JG Ballard's cult novel Concrete Island.

Drawing parallels from Stefano Harney and Fred Moten’s The Undercommons, a study of fugitivity and blackness, VOID is a re-imagining of critical consciousness and a radical intervention in the discourse of race and representation. In this re-telling, Concrete Island’s protagonist Maitland – a white male architect, intent on breaking out of the real world – is re-imagined as Angela – a black female architect, desperately trying and failing to break in.

About Malik Nashad Sharpe and Ellen Furey

Malik and Ellen have been collaborating since 2016. While colliding their individual practices, they resist an expectation to merge world views, instead, figuring ways to be witness to the other co-creating third things (choreographic structures/scores) that sit between them, outside of them. Valuing both autonomy and care, they hold themselves accountable to that co-created third thing, structure, situation, and aim for energetic trips in non-linear drama and believing in impossible things.
