Emily teaches a Cunningham based class that plays with the idea of freedom within form, encouraging a sense of weight and suspension whilst maintaining an emphasis on spinal alignment. Starting with a series of back exercises, the class then progresses onto longer sequences focusing on expansion, efficiency of movement and shifting through space.

Artist’s biography:

After dancing at The Place’s Centre for Advanced Training programme, Emily went on to complete her professional training at London Contemporary Dance School where she graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) degree.  During her time at LCDS Emily performed works by Richard Alston, Dane Hurst, Lauren Potter and Jeannie Steele. Emily continues to perform and is in creative collaboration with Bethany Edwards.

Emily teaches at various institutions across London including Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance, The Place CAT scheme and Rambert Studios. She is a lecturer in contemporary dance technique at London Studio Centre.

Emily is also a fully certified Pilates instructor, teaching both 1-2-1 and group sessions. She is a guest lecturer in Pilates at London Contemporary Dance School.

Class description:

This Level 1 class is for participants with some knowledge of contemporary dance and over a years’ dance experience. You will look at a more developed dance vocabulary and a greater sense of body awareness in the space. Classes will work with longer phrases aimed at increasing physicality, performativity and musicality. Working with a more codified structure, you will prepare the body for an increase in activity throughout the class.
