Overseas Auditions

Overseas Audition Information for 2019 Entry Applicants                                            

Please make sure that you have selected either New York, San Francisco or Singapore when completing your application. If you were unsure of where you would like to audition at the time you completed the application form, please contact to register your intention. All audition start times include time for paperwork and preparation. The application deadline is 28 Jan 2019 at 12pm noon.

Please note that the New York audition has already taken place. 

Paperwork due at Audition (if not provided prior to the audition)

  • Application Form (if not already submitted online)
  • Two recent passport photos (please write your names in block capitals on the back)
  • Two written references, one must be dance-related and one academic.
    • These are confidential and should be submitted in sealed envelopes. They should also contain the name, address and position of the referee so that we can contact them at a later date if necessary.

Application Fee

If not paid following an online submission of the application, payment can be made on the day of the audition in cash ($65 USD or $90 SGD).

Audition Content (order of events may vary)

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Contemporary class (which will include a dedicated postgraduate component in New York)
  • Workshop
  • Contemporary solo (undergraduates only)
  • Interview

Please expect the audition to be a minimum of four hours, candidates may or may not be asked to stay for the whole day. Please note also that videos may be filmed of the classes and by participating you give your consent to be filmed. These videos will only be used as part of the selection process and will not be made public.

You are requested to wear tight-fitting clothes throughout the audition and should bring a leotard/tight-fitting t-shirt, footless tights, socks and flat ballet shoes. You may wish to bring knee pads and long sleeves for improvisation and work on the floor

Undergraduate applicants: for your contemporary solo presentation you may wish to use music. There will be the facility to plug in your smartphone/tablet to play music from. Your solo should not exceed one minute.

Postgraduate: PGDip/MA Contemporary Dance (EDGE)

We will be offering preliminary auditions for the following programmes/locations (a subsequent audition in London may be required):

Postgraduate: PGDip/MA Contemporary Dance (Developing Artistic Practice)

  • New York
  • San Francisco
  • Singapore

A successful candidate will be required to complete an interview which can be arranged over Skype if need be, and may be invited to a final recall audition in London.

  • BA: 3 academic years

  • BA: £18,690
  • PGDip: £18,690
  • MA: £20,820

Please note that fees are subject to an annual increase.

Applicants are encouraged to inform Admissions (see contact details below) of any impairment or condition prior to audition so that we can endeavor to meet your needs at the audition and during your studies. Please note that this information will be handled with the strictest of confidentiality.

Please ensure that your application reaches London Contemporary Dance School two weeks before the audition date. If this is not possible please contact the Admissions and Registry Manager to book your audition slot and bring your completed application form to the audition itself.
