Audition Day

Please expect the audition to be a minimum of four hours. Candidates may or may not be asked to stay for the whole day, which will consist of:
Welcome and introduction
Ballet class
Contemporary class
Improvisation
Contemporary solo (undergraduate applicants only)
Interview
Visa and funding information session

You are requested to wear tight-fitting clothes throughout the audition and should bring a leotard/tight-fitting t-shirt, footless tights, knee pads, socks and flat ballet shoes.

Undergraduate applicants: for your contemporary solo presentation you may wish to use music. Either an mp3 player can be used or a recording on a CD clearly marked with your name, composer’s name and title of the piece. We would also suggest that you bring a spare copy of the music in a different format, as not all sound equipment is compatible with all CD recordings. Your solo should not exceed one minute.

Developing Artistic Practice (DAP) applicants: please note that the overseas practical auditions are mostly geared towards undergraduate programmes, so the taught content will be very different from the specific DAP auditions held in London. Jeanne Yasko, Artistic Director for Edge will be at the New York audition and will be best placed to give face to face information about the DAP programme. Our usual practice is to record footage from all overseas auditions which is then viewed by members of the postgraduate department back in London, and discussed in conjunction with your personal statement alongside any links you may have sent. We then arrange skype interviews with selected applicants.
