Undergraduate Auditions

We understand that auditions can make candidates feel apprehensive, but we do everything we can to help them feel welcome, and enable them to share your knowledge, passion and potential with us. Some of our current students work as ambassadors on audition days, to let auditionees know more about life in the School and to help put them at their ease.

Stage One: Initial Audition

The first stage of the audition consists of:

  • class work: contemporary technique and improvisation session
  • a short solo, one minute maximum, preferably choreographed by the candidate. Students may give a short introduction to their piece

Candidates will be asked to stay for a group discussion. At the end of the Audition Day, the panel make one of the following decisions:

  • to investigate the candidate’s suitability for the course further by inviting them to a recall audition
  • that our training is not suited to the student’s current training needs

Stage Two: Recall Audition

Candidates invited to join a recall audition will usually be invited to take further classes. Some students will also be asked to attend an interview and physical examination at this stage.

Video Audition

In some circumstances applicants who are unable to attend any of the auditions in London, USA or Singapore may be able to submit a video audition. Due to the availability of audition places in Europe, the School can only accept video auditions in exceptional circumstances from candidates who live within the UK.
