Alumni news: Dickson Mbi nominated for the South Bank Sky Arts Awards

5 Jun 2018

Alumnus Dickson Mbi has been nominated for South Bank Sky Arts Breakthrough Award, sponsored by The Times.

'Dickson, a star in the hip-hop dance community, has won numerous awards for his popping skills. Yet when he branched out into contemporary dance, his work reached a new level of accomplishment, especially in his appearances with Russell Malpihant’s company. This year Dickson produced a magnetic performance with Maliphant in Critical Mass, in which two bald men dressed in denim made absolute stage magic. And in Still, another work by Maliphant, Mbi prowled and preened magnificently — he was nothing short of mesmerising. Next month he turns his hand to creation, presenting solo work as part of Portraits in Otherness, an initiative by the Akram Khan company at the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler’s Wells in London.'

The Times Breakthrough Award will be decided by a panel of Times judges. The South Bank Sky Arts Awards takes place on July 1 and will be broadcast on Sky Arts in July
