Robert Cohan, Founding Artistic Director of The Place, was a prolific choreographer, an utterly brilliant teacher and also a shrewd strategist. Single-handedly he changed the face of contemporary dance in this country. Well, perhaps not quite single-handedly, for it was Robin Howard, Founder of the Contemporary Dance Trust, who had the vision to invite Cohan to lead his as yet only dreamt-of new organisation comprising a Company, a School and a building which was to become known as The Place - Cohan bravely took up this invitation and contemporary dance in Britain was born.

Hosted by Akosua Boakye BEM in front of the empty auditorium of the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford, with winners joining in by video, the online ceremony still managed to create a glamorous atmosphere as the dance community honoured those that worked so hard to keep the heart of dance beating this year.

In July, four students aged 16-17 years from our Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) scheme were awarded scholarships to attend the Arte Balletto Summer School in the heart of Cantina, Sicily. The scheme allowed the students to immerse themselves within a different culture and language, and to have an opportunity to work with new teachers, artists and other European students, as well as ending the programme with a performance at Teatro Metropolitan.

London Contemporary Dance School alumni Margarida Macieira and Nicolas Ventura would like to share with you Addo Platform’s success as they celebrate its first launch in Vancouver City this Summer. Addo Platform, founded by Margarida and Nicolas, is an artistic platform which aims to make art in different communities more accessible and collaborative through running dance workshops, performances, exhibitions, residencies, classes, online marketing opportunities and more.

London Contemporary Dance School alumnus Joseph Lee Wai-Nang is sharing his latest work Folding Echoes at Edinburgh Fring Festival this August. Originally from Hong Kong, Joseph's first degree was in accounting before he came to LCDS. His choreography differs from the local dance scene in Hong Kong, with a particular use of audience interaction.
