Potential is the critical factor in applicants being suitable for our programmes. Our auditions are designed to give candidates the best opportunity to demonstrate that potential. This is not simply a matter of being technically proficient in contemporary dance and/or ballet, and is not about having a certain type of physique or capability. Audtionees are not being compared to other candidates; we want them to show us what sort of artist they can be. We want to see that they have the right mental aptitude and hunger to learn that will enable you to realise this potential during their time at the School.
Candidates will usually have considerable contemporary dance and/or ballet training, and have the physical ability and mental aptitude to be able to benefit from our training. Practical dance skills, aptitude, and potential for development will be assessed at audition and interview.
Two passes at A Level or equivalent in approved subjects, or satisfactory completion of the School’s own entry tasks, full details of which will be sent to candidates if appropriate. Equivalent overseas qualifications are acceptable. As a general rule they are the qualifications necessary to begin a university undergraduate course in the candidate’s home country.
Candidates must normally be at least 18 years old. Candidates whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate language proficiency at audition. We accept either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum required score of IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element) or the Trinity College London (TCL) Integrated Skills in English test level II (undergraduate – minimum level B2).
Please note that if you require a student visa, the English test must be taken at an approved centre.
We are determined that cost should not deter suitable applicants from applying and joining London Contemporary Dance School. See here for details of our application fee waivers and fees and the financial assistance available.
