Despina Patsika

Despina, born in 1992, grew up and studied in North Greece. By 2015, she graduated with Honors as a primary school teacher from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and simultaneously completed her piano studies with a Diploma in teaching and performance. The most influential tutors throughout that period have been: Periklis Pavlidis (philosophy, pedagogy), Tatiana Tampoulides (piano), Dimitris Kyanidis (ballet), Eleni Tsompanaki (contemporary dance).

Dance has been a continuous companion and passion throughout the years. At ten years old she joined the local ballet school of her hometown, Ptolemaida, and at eighteen she met contemporary dance. In her free time she trained on both and performed mainly ballet repertoire but also new works created by her teachers in various schools of Thessaloniki (such as Aspa Foutsi Dance School, Somatic Gym, Professional Dance School of Phyllis Mantziari; repertoire included Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, Gayaneh, Don Quichote, Serenade, Le Corsaire).

Despina arrived in London to immerse herself in creative collaborations within performance art. As an LCDS student she enrolled on the DAP program in order to take a wide range of modules, including Choreography, Screendance, Somatics and Improvisation into Performance. Her first choreographic work 'Subspace' was performed at The Place Theatre in May 2017.

Despina is currently in the process of completing her MA; practicing and researching on music accompaniment in the dance training environment under the supervision of Neil Webster (Chief Accompanist at LCDS) and Elsa Urmston (Independent Dance Educator).
