After graduating from the Postgraduate Diploma, Grace Nicol set up a series of cabaret style evenings of female-led performance, Woman SRSLY at CentrE17. Grace says that, ‘after taking part in the PGDip at The Place, I created, I learnt a lot and I expanded my dance network. However, in doing this, I was struck by the amount of brilliant women who were struggling to get their work shown. I wanted to create a place where women could present their work and push the boundaries of what a regular theatre can offer.’ Grace will continue her Masters in September 2017.
Woman SRSLY V1 kicks off on the 31 August with a programme of work hosted by performance artist Isis O’Regan. Other acts on the 31 August will include: Katie Dale Everett’s film Digital Tattoo, which was created as part of the Channel 4 Random Acts project, work by performance maker Claudia Palazzo and recent London Contemporary Dance School BA graduates The Yonis.
An open call will be launched in September for future Woman SRSLY events. Grace Nicol Dance is committed to socially engaged work and the promotion of female led performance. CentrE17 is located near Walthamstow tube station and is the London borough of Waltham Forest’s only purpose-built performance space.
