London Contemporary Dance School, along with all the affiliate schools of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama, is working to ensure that all students who will benefit from our training will continue to be able to access our programmes as higher education funding changes from September 2012.

Changes to university funding

Government reforms to higher education funding mean that all universities will be charging higher fees from 2012. The world-class vocational training offered by London Contemporary Dance School costs at least £17,000 per student per year to deliver. We will be charging new UK and EU students £9,000 per year for all undergraduate programmes.

English students studying for a first undergraduate degree will not have to pay tuition fees up front or while completing studies. You will be able to take out a government student loan for tuition, and defer payment until after you have graduated and are earning a minimum salary (currently set at £21,000 per year). You will also be eligible for income-assessed maintenance loans and maintenance grants.

If you are a student from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you will be eligible for financial support from the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly or the Northern Ireland Executive.

Fees and support

London Contemporary Dance School's tuition fees are set by the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama. Fees for UK/EU undergraduate students will be £9,000 per year for entry in 2012-13 (this applies only to students starting courses from September 2012. Different fees apply for students who begin courses before that date).

The School will continue to recruit students on the basis of talent alone. To achieve this, many students will be eligible for fee waivers, which could reduce the cost of your training by up to £4,000 each year (to an annual fee of £5,000 per year).

The financial support available to our students includes:

  • Government loans to cover fees and living costs
  • More generous government maintenance grants for students from households with incomes of less than £42,600
  • National Scholarships, part-funded by the government, giving additional waivers awarded through means-testing and on the basis of exceptional talent
  • A new Conservatoire Scholarship Scheme
  • Bursaries from London Contemporary Dance School’s Fund for Excellence

More information about the full range and levels of financial support available to new students at LCDS will be published here in September 2011.
