The Fund for Excellence (FFE) is a donor supported fund that exists to assist students with tuition, maintenance or other costs.

Undergraduate students may automatically receive an award from the Fund for Excellence as a result of the means testing process required for the Conservatoire Scholarship Scheme. Eligible students will be notified of any award from the Fund for Excellence when the applicant’s total financial support package is distributed.

Additionally, enrolled students are able to apply each and every term that they are enrolled. Application forms are made available by week 3 of any given term, with bursary decisions made by about week 7.

Postgraduate students are able to apply following an offer of a place at LCDS. Award decisions are typically made in late June or early July.

There are two main criteria that guide bursary award decisions:

  • the applicant's level of need
  • any effort that the applicant has undertaken to mitigate their need: steps that students often take to mitigate their need could include employment (both during the summer and term-time), sound financial planning, and undertaking a letter-writing campaign

Applicants will be required to complete a budget for the year that demonstrates the funding that they have coming in and the amount of money that they expect to have to spend.

To be eligible to apply to the FFE, applicants must have taken their full entitlement of any student loan that is available to them.
